It's been a while since my last post, which was another essay. However, even a founder still has the ordeals of life to contend with.
First time mentioning this here, outside family and friends; back in January I developed trigeminal neuralgia. It’s a condition I’d wish for no person. It’d forced me to stop working and take a medical leave of absence until it’s resolved, IF it can be resolved. My latest MRI scans failed to find a classical cause; thus, I'm now in a difficult position of finding an atypical cause. Due to the delays in medical insurance, I’d just recently completed this 7-tesla scan. I’m convinced it’s something in my cervical (neck) pinching a nerve; it’s always popping and grinding nowadays. I’ve also stopped taking the nerve medication as the condition has gone into remission. I’ve always disliked medication for medication's sake, as there is always a trade-off with side effects, and I had plenty with what I was taking. 🙄 Now it's the paranoia of when it will relapse and I start the regiment once again until it subsides.
On other fronts, my sister-in-law passed last week, it hasn’t been easy for my wife. Due to the age differences between the siblings, and her being one of the youngest; the eldest sister was a second mother to her. Several years ago, her mother had passed at nearly this time, both from complications of a poor lifestyle. Her father isn’t far behind nor her youngest sibling, a brother. I wouldn’t doubt if she felt her better health was something of a curse now; not that she been ideal, aging sometime isn’t a graceful decline. 😅 We both have our fair share of corrective surgeries. I with my lumbar and now neck causing a neurological disorder; and her now with a replaced hip with another to be done in a few years, turning 50 really kinda sucks. It’s this weird liminal state in which you think to have wisdom from education and life experience yet not the physicality to always express it. Even the mind sometimes feels in decline.
As too the Utopian Society, I haven’t done much work with the corpus, the website or the book series that I’ve spun from it... which started off as one novel and evolved into a series. I’ve completed the first, Robyn’s Journey, enough to say it’s completed, and then I find some damn thing to tweak... The other three novels are done conceptually, the last remaining to be written into draft while two others are being polished. I’ll check it periodically and may get back to you if and when I find the time or its subject matter is relevant to the society’s growth. As for the website, I've been busy for the last month getting my own development server for myself and the society developed. It's an older 1U dual-socket Xeon server that had been decommissioned, to which I plan on using as a mirror for this website should anything happen to me current host and service providers. At the moment it's currently running media server software, VMs, and a Minecraft server. I've been busy curating my digital libraries, fixing incorrect or missing metadata, organizing it all and adding to it. As of right now it's only available on the local LAN (< yes, I know its redundant like wet water 😅) and I'm busy hardening it and my firewalls. While I had it momentarily exposed directly to the Internet for a few days while updating my routers, I'd had nearly 12k attempted logins from bot crawlers using generic accounts and weak password combinations to gain entry. They all failed. Once I finish with securing the unit following current industry practices, I'll open up the shared Minecraft server for individuals to play on; my personal media however remains isolated to my immediate family. I don't need problems regarding copyright infringement and illegal distribution. However, since I have infrastructure now, I'm looking into an IPTV channel for the society, a true naturist channel airing content relevant to the society, naturalism, body and sexual positivity. It's currently conceptual at the moment but it will happen.
