A Civic Covenant of Free Earthlings
Preamble
We, the people of this Society, affirm our covenant to live in harmony with Earth and with one another. Rooted in nature, guided by love, and bound by consent, we establish this Charter as the enduring foundation of our shared life. It proclaims the rights and responsibilities of all who dwell within, ensuring that freedom, dignity, and care remain our common inheritance.
This Charter is not a law of rulers, but a promise of equals. It is our bond across generations, declaring that no voice is too small, no body too humble, no love too different to be denied.
Article I – Principles of Life
- Natural Harmony – We live as stewards, not masters, of the Earth. What we take, we replenish. What we use, we honor. The cycles of soil, water, air, and fire are sacred, and human life is bound within them.
- Body Sovereignty – Each person is the sole steward of their own body. Nudity, touch, and sensual expression are never shameful, but natural forms of life’s joy.
- Consent as Sacred – No act, union, or covenant has meaning without freely given consent. Consent is the heartbeat of trust, and the unyielding line between care and coercion.
- Transparency and Care – Secrecy breeds harm, but openness protects. Compassion, honesty, and care form the true infrastructure of society.
Article II – Rights of the Individual
- The Right to Love Freely – All persons may love, bond, or live solitary, without stigma or restraint. Monogamy, polyamory, asexuality, and every form of love shall be equally respected.
- The Right to Live Unclothed and Unashamed – The human body, in all forms, is dignified. Public and private nudity are protected expressions of natural living. Sexual activity shall remain consensual and contextual, never criminalized or shamed.
- The Right to Refuse – Consent may be withdrawn at any moment. No person shall be coerced into intimacy, labor, or participation by force, guilt, or imbalance of power.
- The Right to Creative Expression – Art, story, song, and invention are the sacred fruits of human imagination. No voice or vision shall be silenced unless it denies the dignity of another.
- The Right to Die with Dignity – Life is a cycle. When one’s time approaches, each may choose the manner and moment of their passing, aided by compassion and care.
- The Right of Passage – Adulthood is recognized not by age, but by natural maturity of body and spirit. Each individual shall claim their readiness through ritual, community witness, and personal affirmation, never by coercion or decree.
Article III – Duties of the Community
- To Steward Earth – We are guardians of land, air, water, and life. Our duty is to protect and restore, leaving more wholeness than we inherit.
- To Honor Consent – We safeguard the boundaries of others as sacred.
- To Share in Contribution – Each gives according to ability, each receives according to need. No gift is measured by profit, but by purpose.
- To Remember and Teach – Elders and youth alike carry the duty of preserving memory, knowledge, and ritual. Education is lifelong, holistic, and rooted in truth.
Article IV – Rituals and Continuity
- The Earth as Temple – Forests, rivers, and skies are our sanctuaries. Festivals honor solstices, equinoxes, and moons, binding our lives to nature’s cycles.
- Rites of Passage – From birth to death, life’s transformations are marked by communal ritual:
- Naming – Welcoming the newborn into community.
- Blooming – Claiming adulthood through natural maturity.
- Union – Celebrating chosen bonds of love and partnership.
- Decline – Honoring the wisdom and fragility of elderhood.
- Return to Earth – Committing the body back to nature in reverence.
Closing Covenant
This Charter is our vow: to live freely, love openly, and care deeply. It binds us not by chains of law, but by the strength of trust. It is a living covenant, to be carried, renewed, and honored by every generation.
We stand not as subjects of empire, but as equals in community, stewards of Earth, and companions in love.
So long as rivers flow and hearts beat, this Charter shall endure.
In witness of this Charter, we set our hands:
